Griffith University will host Australia's first Tourism Confucius Institute at the Gold Coast Campus.
It is a joint project between Griffith and the China University of Mining Technology. Griffith International Pro Vice Chancellor Chris Madden (pictured) said while there were nine other Confucius Institutes in Australia, this was the first focused on tourism. "With Griffith's strengths in hospitality and tourism education, the Institute can link the University and Gold Coast Tourism with the relevant Ministry of Tourism in China to promote close industry linkages," Mr Madden said. The Institute will develop into a Chinese language training centre and will seek accreditation to teach the Certificate of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. "It is hoped that in the future, the Institute will establish a 'Confucius College' for prep to year 12 students which will be run as a Chinese immersion program – meaning local students will be taught in Chinese. The Institute will also offer industry business networking opportunities and establish links to Gold Coast Tourism, Queensland Events and the leading international hotel brands to run conferences at the Gold Coast to attract tour operators and travel agencies from China and vice versa. |
