The United Nations Student Association (UNSA) at Nathan campus is
cohosting a Movie and Trivia Night for World Peace Day on Tuesday,
September 21 from 6pm.
Kate Stevenson, vice-president of UNSA Griffith University, has been working with members of the UQ UNSA to organise their first ever intervarsity social event for Brisbane’s university students. “Aside from Model UNs, we’ve never had an event that brings together people from all the different universities,” Kate said. “We thought that World Peace Day would be a good time to do that, and to have some friendly competition.” Kate, a second year Asian studies and Honours College student, tipped a winner. “I shouldn’t be biased, but Griffith will win, of course!” The event will start with a screening of Lara van Raay’s award-winning peace-themed short film, Palestine, Beer and Oktoberfest under Occupation, and will feature artwork and a performance from the Women’s International LGriffithfor Peace and Freedom. This will be followed by an international trivia competition pitting Griffith against students from UQ, QUT and Bond. The event is registered on the International Day of World Peace website, and will be held at the Innes Room at The University of Queensland St Lucia from 6pm to 9pm. The cost is $5 per person including light refreshments; all proceeds will be divided between Oxfam Australia and UNICEF. |
